I love playing games where you can explore areas, defeat enemies and grow stronger.

Diablo Immortal is a free-to-playmassively multiplayer online action role-playing video game (or MMORPG). It came out eight months ago on the iPhone. There are six classes to choose from – Barbarian, Wizard, Monk, Necromancer, Demon Hunter, and Crusader. Players control their character of one of these classes, with the goal being to find and destroy the elusive hidden Worldstone shards to prevent the Lord of Damnation, Skam, from destroying the world called Sanctuary.

I chose to play as a Wizard for my class. Wizards unleash magic damage attacks that shred hit points (HP) but have less starting HP and have long cooldowns for skills, making it hard to play on my own without a supporting person to take HP during battles. Barbarians are melee fighters with easy spells to use and high mobility but are constantly the targets of damage when other classes fight together. Monks are melee fighters that rely on combos to win, and it’s hard to avoid damage, but they have high mobility and can do lots of damage. Necromancers raise the dead and use them to fight, summoning skeleton hordes and dealing damage with curses, and have the best ultimate ability in the game but rely on the skill of summoning. Demon Hunters trap their opponents and deal damage to them, allowing for tactical gameplay, but it gets complicated, and there’s only a small choice of skills and abilities to play from. And finally, Crusaders deal true damage to their opponents and work the best with a defensive combat style, but it is hard to avoid taking damage.

During my experience with the game, I played dungeons with other players, defeated countless monsters, and learned how to use the Wizard class to my advantage by hurdling fire spells, wind spells, and ice spells to my opponents and knocking them out. I had a lot of fun unlocking objectives and traveling across maps to unlock and finish various quests. However, I believe I chose the wrong class for my first play-through, as the wizard had a small amount of HP and could not play well on its own. I decided to play the game over again as a Barbarian class, and I leveled up much faster and had a more enjoyable initial experience due to his higher HP, melee fighting, and high mobility.

My boss recommended that I play Diablo Immortal at my part-time job. I asked him what his recommendations are for the game, as he has been playing the series for a long time and is a big fan of the game. He recommends that the game offer more advancement with classes, like being able to level up your class and unlock new abilities, instead of the class staying stagnant the whole time. I definitely agree with him; I think that a system that unlocks more class features over time as you play the game would be cool to see and prevent each class from getting boring as you play through it over time.

As for my review and recommendations for the game, I think it should be easier to switch between classes and experience new forms of gameplay. I also think it should be easier for all the classes to play solo as opposed to with others – just because the game is massively multiplayer does not mean everyone is playing with someone else, so leveling through the story and completing solo battles should be easy enough to do on your own without it ruining the experience.
