Families, students, and staff came together for a festive fall tradition during the University of Illinois Springfield’s Family Weekend, held October 17–19. As part of the celebrations, UIS Residence Life hosted a pumpkin painting event on October 18 in the first-floor lounge of Founders Residence Hall.
“We’re doing a pumpkin painting event for all the students and their families for Family Weekend,” said Nick Wagner, Area Coordinator for Residence Life. “It’s just a great chance for students and families to get together, do a little art project, eat a little pizza, and just hang out for a while and build community here at UIS.”
Students and family members of all ages received pumpkins and painting supplies, letting creativity, and Halloween spirit, lead the way. From spooky cobwebs to character-inspired designs, each pumpkin showcased personal flair and seasonal inspiration. Complimentary pizza added to the cozy, community-focused atmosphere.
“I really just wanted to get into the Halloween spirit, with some spiders and cobwebs,” said UIS student Jane Carter.
Maria Garcia, another UIS student, drew inspiration from film. “I was inspired from the movie The Character Group,” she said, designing her pumpkin based on themes from the movie.
The evening invited students and families to celebrate fall, express creativity, and enjoy time together as part of UIS’ ongoing efforts to build connection and campus tradition.
