Every year UIS holds an event to showcase what students of all majors have been working on throughout their time at UIS. The event goes by the name of STARS: Student Technology, Arts and Research Symposium.

This year’s in-person events will take place in the Student Union Ballroom on Friday, April 12 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with a version for online students to be held one day earlier on Thursday, April 11 from 6-8 p.m. Under the guidance of faculty, students can submit their work and either present it, create a poster for it or perform it.  To follow the oral presentations will be the poster and art showcase. Each student who creates a poster or art piece will be with their work from 11-12:30 to explain their work or answer any questions about it. Once all has been concluded the awards ceremony will take place.

This is an opportunity for the students to be rewarded for their work throughout the year. What is shown during this event is around to stay. Previous years’ work is available online here. [https://www.uis.edu/research/student-research-support/student-technology-arts-research-symposium ]

All students, faculty and the public are welcome to attend STARS. This will be a great way for students and the community to learn more about what others are doing on campus and to get more involved. Since the range of projects is so broad there will be many options to pique the interest of others. The work will range from research projects to creative art pieces made by students. If students are interested in participating next year this event will be held again around the same time, but abstracts must be submitted in March.
