Q & A: Are environmental causes important to you?
Zach Allevi, senior communication major, English minor
“Although I do care about the environment and I always try to be environmentally friendly as possible, I can’t say that it is of high importance to me, because I know that so many other people don’t care about it, which is sad because if more people cared about it then it would make it worth it to go that extra. But sometimes when you’re just being lazy or you just can’t be bothered with putting in the effort, because so many people don’t care about it, it gives me an excuse to be like that, which is bad and I know that, but that’s just the way life is.

“I believe they are, mainly because we’re living in a world where if you don’t take of it, it’s not going to last…We basically live in what we make of it and taking care of the Earth, not only helps us in the long run, but it’s a health concern for a lot. I walk around campus, for example, I’ll see garbage all over it and it just makes you want to do something about it.
Malcolm Bennett, senior English major, African American studies minor
“I would argue that environmental causes are important specifically to me because we only get one earth and not only do I have to live here, my kids have to live here, and their kids have to live here. Until we find a way to get to Earth 2.0, whether it’s just speculation or whether it’s actually grounded in fact, it’s important for us to take care of our environment. … You don’t want to live in a dirty house, this is everybody’s house, so we should keep it clean.
Alyssa Hasler, sophomore psychology major, communication minor
“Yes, mainly because I feel like there is a lot going on right now that we’re not paying attention to, like global warming. I’m actually taking an environmental class online and I’m learning a lot more about the effects of our products that we buy and how much really goes into that. When you look at how much energy and natural resources we use just by making something as simple as a pen or a candle. I think being able to recycle that object is super important, so that we’re reusing things, instead of just making new things all the time.”
