UIS men’s golfer Talon Supak became the first student-athlete in program history to win an individual NCAA Super Regional Championship.

Supak held on to a 36-hole lead to outlast Zach James from Southeastern Oklahoma State and James Inman from Bellarmine in the Division II Midwest Super Regional.

Entering the third round, the three golfers were deadlocked in a one-under-par tie for the lead.

As play shaped out at The Meadows, thanks to poor weather conditions, the par 71 course was unforgiving to the 103 golfers in the final round, as no one was able to break par.

Supak shot a 77 on the day and ended with a five-over-par score for the tournament after a first-round 70 and second-round 71 (218).

James mustered a 78 (219), good enough for second place, while Inman finished in third with a final-day score of 79 (220).

With the win, Supak earns an automatic berth to the Division II NCAA National Championships, held from May 17-21 at the Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver.

Supak will compete with 108 other participants from around the country.
