On January 15th, 2026, the women’s and men’s UIS Prairie Star basketball teams played a doubleheader against the Rockhurst Hawks. The event was held at the UIS Recreation and Athletic Center (TRAC), where family, friends, and fans came together to enjoy the games.
Starting at 5:30 pm, the women’s basketball game opened the event. The UIS Prairie Stars women’s basketball team dominated the court, coming out on top by a considerable margin and defeating Rockhurst 86-36. Some key players from that night include Kayla Rice, who led the team with 20 points, shot 73% from the field, and committed 6 steals. And Julia Mingus who scored the second-most on the team with 15 points, and shot over 83% from the 3-point line.
UIS players Kennedy Osterman and Paula Stzelecki also performed at a high level during the game, each receiving 8 rebounds. And Molly Knight came in with 5 assists to help secure a win for the Prairie Stars.
At 7:30 pm, the UIS Prairie Stars men’s basketball team played a highly competitive game but ultimately lost to Rockhurst at 84-56. Despite their loss the UIS men’s team went all out and still delivered an exciting game to the fans in the audience. Alex Stell scored the most for the for the team at 12 points and shot 86% from the free-throw line, along with getting 6 rebounds, the same amount as his teammate Donaven Younger. Jordan Rice recorded 4 assists in the game, the most of night for the men’s Prairie Stars.
The UIS women’s basketball team has won 3 of 4 games since their faceoff against Rockhurst. The UIS men’s basketball team have won all 4 of the games they played since their defeat by Rockhurst. Both teams’ next home game will be February 19, where the Prairie Stars will face off against Lewis University in another doubleheader at the TRAC.
