Each year, the UIS Student Activities Committee (SAC) puts together and hosts their annual Springfest competition, Springfest. Described as “an annual week…of friendly, competitive, events” where students are able put teams of 7-12 together to try and win. This year the theme was Nickelodeon and teams were able to design their flags and come up with a fun name that fit the theme. Eleven teams signed up and got ready to fight their way to first place. Some of the challenges that were part of Springfest were a scavenger hunt, trivia night, flag chants and a mud tug-of-war that was part of two sports days. All of these events are valuable to the student experience here at UIS and a lot of the participants agree.

I participated in Springfest in 2023 – my junior year at UIS – and it was a great time. I was able to disconnect from school and participate in different events with my friends. It was a great way to partake in one of the few fun things to do on campus and meet new people. My favorite event was the scavenger hunt because it was interesting to see how much each one of the team members knew about the school and campus.

A couple of my friends were able to take part in this year’s Springfest and managed to earn their way to second place! They all shared the sentiment of this being a way to take your mind off of school and, in a way, play like kids again. Yonoxi, a junior in the Exercise Science program here at UIS, said that her favorite event was Sports Day 1 where there were relay races, badminton, table tennis and dodgeball. She’s a competitive person so this was the perfect event for her. “Springfest is a fun event and I think more people should do it at least once before they leave UIS,” said Yonoxi.

Similarly, Daniela, a junior studying Business here at UIS, said that her favorite event was the Scavenger Hunt because she got to do many different fun activities with her teammates! “Considering I’m not a very competitive person, I still had lots of fun completing all the challenges with all my friends,” said Daniela when asked about her overall experience as a participant in Springfest. Overall, Springfest is an event enjoyed by many, congrats to all the winners this year.
