It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Springfest 2014: Clash of the Comics.

For those of you who have not been formally introduced to Springfest, listen closely. It is the craziest, most spirited week of the entire school year. Individuals go all out, and things can get rather crazy.

Basically, the event is the UIS version of other universities’ ‘Greek Week’. Students, alumni and staff gather together, forming teams of 10-15 individuals, to compete in a week’s worth of events for the ultimate title of Springfest Champion. Last year, 29 teams competed for this honor.

Over the course of the week, teams compete against one another in different events, such as a scavenger hunt, trivia night, flag and chant, sports day, volunteering and more.

The 22nd annual Springfest event is scheduled to take place April 14 through the 19.

As of right now, the exact details of this year’s week are being worked out and will be announced once they are set in stone.

“Overall it’s a great experience and an enjoyable mental break from schoolwork,” said Vivica Futrell, senior accounting major. “I like the incorporation of volunteer events. It’s the perfect way to get a large number of students to help out in the community.”
