The Prairie Stars faced great upsets against McKendree University and the University of Indianapolis this past week. After 45 minutes of back and forth combat in Monday’s game against McKendree, UIS was defeated by only two points.

UIS ended the first half with a four point lead over McKendree, 44-40. UIS and McKendree continued to fight for the top throughout the second half. The second half ended with a 93-93 tie, forcing the game into overtime.

UIS and McKendree tied the game two more times during the five minute overtime. The game ended after McKendree made two free throws with two seconds left in the game. This left the final score 102-100.

Although UIS held it together for most of Thursday night’s game, University of Indianapolis quickly overpowered the Prairie Stars in the end of the second half. The Indianapolis Greyhounds finished up the game 104-79.

UIS began the game with the first two shots, giving them a five point lead. They held the lead until the Greyhounds tied the game with 11 minutes left in the first half. After this, UIS and Indianapolis went back and forth with the lead.

During the last minutes of the first half the Greyhounds created a 14-point lead over the Prairie Stars. The first half ended with a score of 46-32.

UIS made a small comeback in the second half, pushing the score to only six points apart with 11 minutes left in the half. Indianapolis then created a large point gap, finishing the game with a lead of 25-point lead.

The Greyhounds had 18 3- pointers and a field goal percentage of 53.8. The Prairie Stars fell far behind with eight 3-pointers. Coach Ben Wierzba stated that the team “can’t let teams keep shooting over fifty percent, we’re giving up way too many points.”

He explained that Indianapolis “made a lot of shots against us and shot the ball really well.” He added that the team “tried to take away their penetration but they made some easy shots early in the game.”
