Dr. Elise LoBue has rightfully earned the title of “Best Professor/Instructor” in the recent “Best of UIS and Beyond” contest. As we extend our congratulations to her, let’s delve into what makes her such a remarkable educator and individual.
LoBue’s journey in academia is intertwined with a myriad of experiences that have shaped her into the inspiring figure she is today. From her impactful service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kazakhstan to her current role as an instructor in the Capital Scholars Honors Program at our university, Dr. LoBue’s dedication to education and advocacy shines through in every facet of her work.
One of the hallmarks of Dr. LoBue’s teaching style is her unwavering support and encouragement for her students. UIS Students TJ Pinedo and Gabby Przygocki speak very highly of her, describing her as “nice,” “encouraging” and “graceful.” She goes above and beyond to ensure that her students feel valued and empowered on their academic journey and she makes assignments feel like they are worth doing. One notable assignment is her “Conspiracy Theories” writing project. Pinedo notes that this made him enjoy writing for the first time.
Beyond the confines of the classroom, Dr. LoBue is deeply involved in student activities that promote compassion and community engagement. Whether it’s participating in events like Springfest or championing initiatives like the recent CAPassion movement, she embodies the spirit of service and empathy that defines our university community.
Outside of academia, Dr. LoBue finds joy in traveling (she just went to Nigeria over spring break), tending to her garden and savoring the simple pleasures of life, such as indulging in dark chocolate and spending time with her four children. In honoring Dr. Elise LoBue as the “Best Professor/Instructor,” we not only celebrate her professional achievements but also recognize the profound impact she has had on our campus community.
