UIS offers many different features for students to visit throughout the day – this could serve may purposes: to study at, to explore, or to just hang out and experience the beauty. UIS as a collective has decided that the best feature is the Koi Pond on campus! This beautiful little pond offers a peaceful yet vibrant scene for students to enjoy. Installed in 2018, it has been a popular spot ever since. People may look at it in passing on the way to class, or sit near to read a book, the options are endless.

While the pond only reaches depths of four feet, this does not stop it from hosting an array of different life. Of course, the main feature are the koi fish themselves, which range in color from orange to white to black. Also populating this small pond are different frogs and toads – and if you get lucky you may witness a duck or two stopping in for a dip. Plants are submerged in the pond to help with biodiversity and to make it more visually appealing.  Next time you are out walking on campus make sure to add the Koi Pond to your places to see!

RUNNERS UP: Colonnade and Fountains, Scenery and Wildlife
