Held in April every year, National Volunteer Month is a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions of volunteers. It is an opportunity to see for yourself the impact of volunteerism and encourage more people to get involved. UIS recognizes that service goes beyond mere volunteering – it’s a means of learning about social issues, policies and current events. The opportunities offered by the UIS Volunteer and Civic Engagement Center offer students, faculty and staff valuable insights into the complexities of the world around them.
This year’s National Volunteer Month activities will offer UIS students the opportunity to help fight food insecurity in our local community through donating food for the Food Donation Challenge and serving local food pantries, assist foster families, get your hands dirty at the UIS Community Garden, make some slippery Slime for children with autism – and even give our furry feline friends a hand. It’s a great way to make a tangible impact and experience personal growth while creating lasting memories by connecting with Springfield community agencies as you build on learned skills and learn the importance of being involved within the community you reside and work within.
