The Pharmacy is a growing collective of local artists and writers with the goal of enriching the community with creative expression. The Pharmacy is debuting 2 simultaneous exhibits Saturday, Sept.15 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The Pharmacy Warehouse Gallery, located on 1022 Pasfield St., presents Breaking In, the exhibition of emerging artists from the Springfield area.
Professor Lacher, the Assistant Visual Art Gallery Manager at HSB, is a member of the Pharmacy. She is excited about the upcoming show.
“The location of the show, The Pharmacy Warehouse, is also studio space where Pharmacy artists work. Three times a year we clear out that space and have a group show, and all of the Pharmacy artists exhibit their work and we turn it into a gallery,” she said.
Lacher said the Warehouse show features many current and former students of UIS.
“UIS is very well represented in this show. It is especially exciting to see our grads continuing with their studio practice, continuing with their own development. From the standpoint of being an educator, I’m very proud of them.”
The Pharmacy is also launching the RX Project, located on 940 S Pasfield St., a block away from the Warehouse Gallery. This exhibit presents be still my heart by Dawn Gettler, a nationally recognized artist who recently received a full fellowship residency at Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, New York.
“It’s a new project of the Pharmacy,” said Lacher. “ RX is where we bring artists from outside of the community to exhibit their work. I like to think of it as a small campus of the Pharmacy.”
Lacher notes that both galleries are one night events.
“Unlike most galleries where a show opens and then it’s accessible to the public for many weeks, this is the reception and it’s the only opportunity the public has to come see this work, which I think is something to be celebrated. The ephemeral nature of these projects is reflected in the one night openings.”
Breaking In will feature the following artists: Mauricio Ramirez, Jess Black, James T. Elliot, Judah Johnson, Dave Warren, Sara Joseph, Karen Borema, Pueblo Nieves, Danielle Paoni, Brad Balster, and Skan Jolly.
