The Prairie Stars lost their second game in a row after going into double overtime against the Missouri S&T Miners, Sunday, 2-3.

After leading the game for 89 minutes, UIS allowed Missouri S&T to score, tying the game 2-2. During the second overtime, the Miners got a shot past UIS goalkeeper freshman EJ Kirn to win the game.

UIS is now 3-3, Missouri S&T becomes 4-2 after the win.

Mark Czarny had a header during the 41st minute. Czarny made the header off of a pass from junior Mark Severino.

Czarny had a total of five shots, three on goal and only one making it past the Miners’ goalkeeper senior Matt Jackson. Severino had one shot on goal and the one assist to Czarny.

UIS received their second goal from senior captain Nicolas Alonso del Moral on a cross pass from junior Chukwuka Iwe. Alonso del Moral had two other shots, one of which was on target but did not make it past Missouri S&T’s defense. Iwe had three shots during the game, one during overtime, and one on goal.

UIS did not manage to keep the 2-0 lead for long. Seconds later, Missouri S&T’s senior Brian Seawright on a pass from senior Gilberto Robayo sent the ball to the far corner of the net past UIS backup goalie Kirn to narrow the deficit to one.

With less than a minute to play, UIS attempted to run the clock out, when a steal and a well-placed lead pass from Missouri S&T’s senior Diego Robayo was sent to senior Carlos Gomez, who scored the game tying goal to force overtime with the score deadlocked at 2-2.

The first overtime resulted in some great opportunities for both teams but no scores. In the sixth minute of the second overtime the Miners finished off a long day with a goal by senior Diego Robayo. Freshman Dylan Stockman was tied with Czarny for total shots during the game but only one of Stockman’s shots was on goal.

Gomez and Robayo led the Miners in shots each contributing four total shots and each scoring one goal. David Zdvorak and Seawright both had three shots for Missouri S&T.

UIS outshot the Miners 24-23 including nine on net, the Prairie Stars also led the Miners 8-3 in corner kicks. Missouri S&T was just behind UIS in shots on goal as well, with a total of eight.

Defensive players Severino, senior Andrew Reutiman, and freshman Addison Ferry played the entire 106 minutes of the game along with midfielder Mac Leverenz. Levernez was very vocal throughout the game, directing his fellow teammates.

Early in the first half, the Prairie Stars lost senior keeper Jack Turanchik after a hard collision in the box put him down and out for the game. Replacing Turanchik in his first collegiate game was Kirn who tallied three saves in his debut.

Missouri S&T received four yellow cards, one going to the bench the other three going to sophomore Alex Reifschneider, freshman Neil Wiaranowski and freshman Mitch Morris.

Attending Sunday’s game was UIS junior Jacob Potts who said “I enjoy seeing how hard the players work, you can tell how bad they want to be on the field, they lost a tough game today.”

UIS heads to Oakland City, Ind. to face 3-2 Oakland City University on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
