The UIS volleyball team is on roll. They are currently on a four win streak with the win Tuesday night over the Lynx from Lindenwood-Bellville.
After coming off a perfect weekend at the GLVC/ GLIAC crossover tournament, the girls were looking to continue their win streak and claim another victory. Head coach Noelle Rooke stated “I think these ladies are really hungry. I think they are hungry to continuously improve to get some more “W’s” in the book, and so I think they are really hungry and we’re continuing to work hard on the things we have been working on all year and keeping it rolling,” when asked about how she helped keep the motivation from this weekend going into Tuesday’s game. They played Lindenwood-Bellville in a nonconference match.
In the first set, UIS dominated with Senior Ashley King serving for 12 points. From there the Stars went on to win the set 25-15, a great way to start off the evening.
However, the second set did not go the way the Stars wanted. The Lynx were able to setup and take the second set for themselves. The score for the set was 25-17 each team now had won once.
After a 10 min break the third set got underway. UIS picked up its game to come back to win the third set 25-17. They took off after taking a 7-2 lead and they didn’t stop until the set was over.
Going into the fourth set of the night the score was 2-1 in UIS’ favor. This would be the closest set all night. The Stars had a dominating lead 18-9 but the Lynx were not about to go down without a fight. They pushed their way back to narrow the lead but it would not be enough. The Stars went on to win the set 25-20 as well as win the game 3-1.
The win now puts the stars at an overall record of 8-12 for the season. After the game coach Rooke commented, “I think we came into this match expecting to win, but I think we let up a little in the second set. Instead of taking care of the ball on our side and doing what we needed to do, we kind of let them walk over us a little bit. I think the girls realized that that wasn’t going to be happening anymore.”
The volleyball team is back in action Thursday night at the Recreational and Athletic Center. First serve is set for 6 p.m. where they hope to continue rolling in the “W’s.”
