This weekend the women’s soccer team was on the road visiting Wisconsin-Parkside University, and Lewis University. After a low streak the women Prairie Stars were looking to turn it around and pull out a successful weekend.
The first stop of the weekend was at Wisconsin-Parkside University to take on the Rangers. The game started and in just 37 seconds into the game Ranger Ashley Meyer scored off an assist from Madison Pickett. The rest of the half would remain scoreless as would the rest of the game. The defeat dropped the Stars to a 3-9-1 overall and 2-9 in conference play. The Stars had six shots on goal, three shots from senior Liz Perrenot followed by senior Ally Redington who had two shots. Freshman goalie Paige Polonus made seven saves while in net.
The game against Lewis University took place on Sunday, but was delayed due to thunderstorms in the Chicago area. Once it was clear to play the game got underway at Lewis Field. The lone goal for the game came 30 minutes and 20 seconds into the match when Lauren Grady from Lewis scored off a cross. Aly Lansky was credited with the assist for Grady’s goal. The Prairie stars would fight to try and equalize the score but were unable to find the net. Redington would pick up three more shots, the only ones for the Stars, and Polonus had four saves while in goal.
The Stars’ overall record fell to a 3-10-1 and a 2-10 record for conference. When asked about the weekend games head coach Pete Kowall commented “We have closed the gap with these teams in the past few years. To some degree we had similar or equal opportunities to score a goal to tie or win a game.”
The next game is set for Friday which will be the last home game for the seniors. Friday is senior night and kick off is set for 5 p.m. at Kiwanis Stadium. They face Missouri-St. “Ally, Liz and Erin have all contributed to the overall respect we’ve earned throughout the league as an opponent that on any given day can beat you” stated Kowall.
