The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team earned a split on its Kansas City road trip after it swept William Jewell on Saturday afternoon.

   The Prairie Stars defeated the Cardinals by scores of 26-24, 25-19, and 25-14.

   The Prairie Stars had just 11 hitting errors in the match, compared to 27 for the Cardinals. UIS had eight blocks and its threat of the block helped caused 19 other unforced errors by William Jewell. UIS finished with a .261 hitting percentage, while the Cardinals hit just .116 in the three sets.

The closest game of the match was the first set, when William Jewell had a 23-20 lead late. UIS closed the set on a 6-1 run though for the come-from-behind win. The Prairie Stars had two kills in that span, while the Cardinals had four hitting errors.

   UIS seized complete control midway through the second set, outscoring the Cardinals 40-22 for the rest of the match after William Jewell had a narrow 11-10 lead in second.

   Taylor Bauer led UIS with 11 kills, followed by Brianna Bush with nine, and Rachel Cobert and Alyssa Hasler with seven each. Hasler also had a team-high four blocks and Cobert led the team with 12 digs. Tiffany Wentworth had 35 assists, and Alli Splitt served up a pair of aces.

    UIS improved to 9-4 on the season and 3-1 in GLVC action
