On Saturday, January 31, UIS Residence Life at Founders’ Residence Hall hosted a night of gambling and games where students could bet fake money and purchase prizes. Along with free snacks and drinks, the event offered a variety of games such as Blackjack, Roulette, and No Mercy and a number of prizes such as snacks and useful household items.

“It went really well, we had a great turnout, and I had a lot of fun playing a bunch of the games,” said Adam Blicharz, UIS Junior and one of the event’s organizers.

Upon entry, each student received $100 in fake money to start them off for the night. Next, participants played Spin the Wheel, where they could win an extra $20, $50, or $100 in fake money. Tables were set up where students could bet their new colorful paper bills while playing Blackjack, Roulette, Poker, UNO, and other games.

When they had finished playing, students could exchange their winnings for any number of prizes. These ranged from other games, such as Monopoly or UNO, to snacks, such as soft drinks, energy drinks and candy, to useful household items like pillows, a coffee maker, and laundry detergent.

Adi Rumier, another event organizer, said that Monster energy drinks cost $150 in fake bills, and that prices for the other prizes went up from there.

“Tonight, a lot of people had a lot of fun, and the prizes were great,” said Blicharz.
