Re-Taking Over the World

When I used to think about Legos, they were just a bunch of different-sized blocks that I could stick together to make something out of, using my imagination. Legos are resurfacing now and we’re all here for it! Lego has come out with many different collections – they have cars, flowers, Harry Potter, Batman, Marvel, etc., Legos are like puzzles but better, because you get to display them around your house or room to double as a decorative piece.

Most of my roommates have Legos of their own that they have around the house. My roommate Liz has some Legos of her own so I decided to ask her about her experience putting her Legos together. She has an Orchid Lego that is displayed in our living room, which she got as a gift from her boyfriend. “I think building a Lego flower is like self-care. It’s a gift that lasts forever, but it requires you to take a moment for yourself to build it,” said Liz about her experience building Legos. She hopes to be able to build other Lego sets soon.

I have a couple of Legos that I have put together and I always enjoy making them. I have two Mercedes replica cars and some flowers and succulents that I have gotten as gifts over the last two years. For me, Legos are fun to make because I like puzzles, and I like knowing that I can use the Legos to decorate my space and not have to take them apart almost instantly. Like Liz, I look at building Legos as a form of self-care that is both relaxing and productive at the same time. I always like to make my Legos as an end-of-the-night activity while listening to music or watching my favorite show.

My other friends Nick and Roger have made their fair share of Legos as well. Nick made a Mercedes Formula 1 car replica, a Batman head and a Batman ship. Obsessed with Batman? Maybe, but making those Legos was enjoyable for him. “It was cool to make, I like working with my hands,” said Nick, when asked about his experience making them. Roger has a couple of cars that he has acquired over the years which he has enjoyed putting together. Roger likes making Legos because “they’re cool to make and have displayed around the room.” They both are looking forward to adding more Legos to their collection.
