The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) Athletics Department has kicked off its annual crowdfunding campaign for the month of November, rallying fans, family and students to financially support their favorite Prairie Stars teams. This initiative offers a unique opportunity for the UIS community to contribute directly to the sports programs they love without additional fees on the student body.
Crowdfunding serves as an online booster program, similar to high school sports booster clubs. It provides a direct way for supporters to help enhance the athletic experience at UIS.
Assistant Athletic Director of Strategic Communications and Operations, Libby Price, highlights the campaign’s impact, stating, “The funds raised go directly to support our programs and have a meaningful impact across various areas—such as equipment, gear, nutrition, and travel.”
Each athletic program at UIS sets specific fundraising targets, with an overall goal of $5,000 per team. The funds are allocated based on each team’s top needs, addressing critical areas like new gear, better travel options, and improved nutrition. Over the past six years, the campaign has successfully raised $185,000, demonstrating the strong support from Prairie Stars fans.
The campaign has also turned into a friendly competition among the teams, sparking enthusiasm to see which sport can garner the most support.
Price adds, “Crowdfunding is one of our department’s main fundraising efforts and offers a simple, effective way for Prairie Stars fans, family, and alumni to directly support their favorite UIS teams. These contributions directly enhance the student-athlete experience by enabling us to invest in nutrition options, improve travel arrangements, purchase new gear, and refresh equipment as needed.”
UIS students are encouraged to promote the campaign by sharing the crowdfunding link on social media, expanding the reach and increasing participation. More information about the 7th Annual UIS Athletics Crowdfunding Campaign can be found on the UIS Athletics website.
