Broken glass covers the floor after a deer charged into student Dane Vincent’s Clover Court townhouse.

Student Dane Vincent had an unexpected visitor when a deer entered his Clover Court townhouse through the kitchen window, early last Wednesday morning.

“Around 3:30 a.m. I was awoken to the sound of breaking glass. I waited in bed for a few minutes longer to make sure that something was actually occurring in my house, rather than something outside,” said

Vincent.

“I began to make my way downstairs in haste, hoping to catch someone… I reached the bottom of my stairs and turned the corner to see a medium sized white-tailed deer sprawled out on the linoleum of my kitchen floor, trying to regain its balance.”

Vincent explained that he contacted local authorities, and that during that time “the deer bounded back out the other window and ran off.”

The animal appeared to be unharmed.

Upon arrival, Officer Zachary Miller was unable to locate the animal, but found two broken windows and deer tracks leading up to the residence.

Although the cause of the incident is unknown, it is believed that the outdoor motion light frightened the deer, or that it charged its own reflection in the window.

According to UIS Police, few deer related incidents have been reported in recent years.
