UIS student dies at age 22

On Thursday, March 24, UIS student Caitlin Parbs died in her Springfield home at 6:30 p.m.
According to an obituary provided by the Butler Funeral Home, Parbs “battled depression and completed suicide.”
Parbs was born in Springfield in 1993 and is the daughter of Michael and Denise Parbs. The obituary said that Parbs graduated from Springfield High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from UIS, where she “made the Dean’s list numerous times.”
The obituary additionally said that Parbs “had a sensitive and kind spirit with a wry sense of humor. She was an avid reader, movie buff, and animal lover. Her greatest love was her family with whom she enjoyed playing board games.”
Memorial contributions are to be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Private family ceremonies have been held.
