On September 9, 2025, Campus Movement (CAMO) hosted its fourth annual Deal or No Deal event in the Student Union Ballroom, drawing a packed crowd of UIS students eager for the chance to win big. Prizes included $1,000 for one lucky contestant and up to $500 for several others. Even those who didn’t win cash enjoyed the lively atmosphere, friendly competition, and free snacks.
The event was a video game-style version of the popular television show Deal or No Deal. Upon arrival, students filled out raffle tickets with their names. Those chosen by raffle took the stage to select briefcases, each containing different prize amounts. As in the show, a “Banker” periodically offered the contestant a cash deal to stop the game, testing their risk tolerance and intuition.
Tyler Mabary, an environmental studies major and one of the evening’s early contestants, said the format made the experience both exciting and nerve-racking.
“They’ll yell out your name instead of just calling numbers, so you have to go up there,” Mabary said.
Despite mixed luck in his selections, Mabary walked away with $85; a win he described as modest but satisfying.
“That’s some good cash,” he said with a smile, before adding, “I was trying to go for $100 at least.”
He noted that his real motivation wasn’t money but community.
“I just came here to hang out with one of my friends. This was a good social gathering for them,” Mabary shared.
Adding to the fun, CAMO replaced the digital banker from the game software with a live performer known as “Banker Brandon.” In a burst of humor and energy, Brandon jogged into the ballroom throwing Monopoly money into the crowd before making real-time cash offers to contestants. His dynamic performance brought a unique and interactive flair to the event.
With each case opened, the crowd reacted in unison gasping at losses and cheering loudly for big wins. While only a few students left with cash prizes, everyone enjoyed a night filled with suspense, laughter, and camaraderie.
The annual ‘Deal or No Deal’ event remains one of CAMO’s most anticipated traditions at UIS. It’s a reminder that whether you win or lose, the biggest prize is a shared campus experience.
