Student Art League: Showcasing the creativity of UIS students

On November 19th, the UIS Art Student League (ASL) hosted the reception for their end of the year Art League showcase. This event displays student art in the UIS Visual Arts Gallery, and is open to anyone willing to display their art.

“Art Student League fosters a positive environment for anyone interested in making art.” Tiama Elfgen, the president of the ASL, explained. “We love hosting activities, events, and field trips to build meaningful relationships with out campus community.”

The ASL aims to create an opportunity for students to share their passion and creativity with the UIS community. Elfgen continued, “There are no limits to who can join this club, as we want to extend our expertise and positivity to anyone on campus.”

“This type of loose criteria shifts with each show we do,” Elfgen said, “as we like to have a variety of works shown in the gallery.” The ASL aims to inspire everyone in the campus community to explore their own artistic expression.

Through the Art League show, the ASL hopes to share student creativity and emphasize the importance of engaging in the arts. Elfgen stated, “These types of events have always been a part of the Art Student League, as part of our missions is to showcase the work UIS students have made.”

Elfgen explained why the ASL organizes the Art League show near the end of the year, “This end-of-the-year student show is meant to showcase works that reflect the student’s best work of the semester.”

The student art will be on display until December 13th.  Elfgen encourages all members of the UIS community “to show up and enjoy the artwork.”
