October 8th, 15th and 22nd the UIS Social World Club held table events in the Student Union to introduce the campus to the club and to promote advocacy. The Social Work Club strives “to form partnerships with the campus and community, raising awareness of social issues in the world, and volunteer on and off campus.”
The Observer spoke with two UIS students majoring in Social Work from the club. Nancy and Kimberly worked the club table event for 3 weeks to promote social work to students on campus, to encourage students to be more involved with the community and to give them a better understanding of the club.
“Social Work [club] just stared up, and so we are just trying to spread awareness that it exists now and get students involved,” Nancy stated.
Nancy spoke about the kinds of work the club will be engaged in, “We are doing volunteer opportunities and career enchantment opportunities.” She also stated the ultimate goal of the club, “We want to be involved in helping people.”
Kimberly encouraged curious students to reach out to them for more information, “You can always check our UIS connections or with Nancy or me for any questions you may have.”
