Needing to win one of their final conference games on April 23 to have a chance to qualify for the upcoming 2016 GLVC Tennis Tournament, the women’s tennis team (10-13, 2-3 GLVC) faced off against Bellarmine University at Springfield’s Washington Park.

However, a 9-0 loss to Bellarmine knocked the Stars out of the tournament bracket, as the University of Southern Indiana (7-15, 3-3 GLVC) clinched the fourth and final spot in the eastern region.

The Stars played again on April 23 against Blackburn College and won the match 9-0. The win secured a record 11th win of the season for the Prairie Stars.

Jane Carter, Faith Hook, Sharon Danquah, and Jasmin Morgan all easily handled their opponents in the contest.

The Stars officially ended their season on April 25, losing by a score of 8-1 against Quincy University at Washington Park.

Jasmin Morgan defeated Rebecca McIsaac in three sets (7-6, 4-6, 10-8) to give the women Prairie Stars their lone victory, as Quincy won the remaining eight singles and doubles competition.

The UIS women’s tennis team finished with an overall record of 11-15.

The men’s team also ended their conference schedule against Bellarmine, and by virtue of their 5-4 loss, finished winless in GLVC regular season play with a record of 0-6.

In their last game against Quincy, however, the Stars rebounded behind single victories by Christian Timm over Wyatt Pauley (6-1, 6-1), Sam Clarke over Michael Lesko (6-1, 6-4), Santiago Pedraza over Danyil Vayser (6-1, 7-5), and Cole Buehnerkemper over Patrick Kuhle (6-1, 7-6)

Additionally, the Stars notched doubles victories by Clarke and Buehnerkemper against Kuhle and Ryan McMillan (8-3), as well as Timm and Ajay Bandreddy over Lesko and Pauley (8-4).

With the win, the men’s team finished the year 12-13.
